Forklifts that work outdoors — in yards, on construction sites and at lumber mills — often use pneumatic tires, and many of them are tube-type. The inner tube carries the load, so its condition directly affects safety and uptime.
Pneumatic, tubeless or solid?
- Tube-type pneumatic — cushioned ride on rough ground, common on split rims.
- Tubeless pneumatic — fewer parts, slower air loss after a puncture.
- Solid / press-on — no punctures, used mainly indoors on smooth floors.
Choosing a forklift tube
- Match the tire size exactly (for example 6.50-10 or 7.00-12).
- Choose the valve that fits the rim — usually a short, straight metal valve such as JS2 or TR75A.
- Use a flap where the rim requires one.
Maintenance and safety
Forklift tires run high pressures and heavy loads. Check pressure weekly, look for cuts and bulges, and replace tube, flap and tire together. Always deflate completely before loosening split-rim bolts and inflate in a safety cage.
